Sandra Meech's latest book follows the pattern of her previous books. They all contain excellent explanations of design principles, and this one is no exception. She illustrates each design area with great photos of her own and other people's work. Most of the work illustrated is abstract, though she references her inspirations from real places and objects. She has a 'class' assignment, or set of assignments at the end of each chapter, which can trigger the reader into working through the ideas in a practical way, much like homework in a real life class setting. There is a small amount of overlap of material from her previous book Connecting Art to Stitch. There was not as much information about using stitch as a design element as I hoped. Only 5 pages at the end. Having said that, of course the illustrations throughout the book do show stitching in detail.One suggestion to the author/publisher is to make the titles of any future books quite distinct. Both with this one and the Connecting Art one, and the previous two Creative Quilts and Contemporary Quilts, it is too easy to get confused between the titles and think you already have them.

I am using this one over and over and getting a great deal out of the info and techniques. Good exercises to keep you thinking, dreaming and creating newly designed works. Just what I needed.
